Aux input hack?
Well, I sussed out the code for my VDO CD413X so its back in Avril, yes I have named her. Never named a car before shows how much I like her.
Anyway, It has the CD changer cable in place, but no changer in the boot, and was thinking is there anyway to hack the cable to be an aux in cable to plug into my phone 3.5mm socket? |

Its worth bridging the Data in and out pins on the blue mini ISO plug in the back of the headunit pressing CD may bring up CD in the display, if it does then just wire up a double screened lead to a 3.5 mm jack socket.
The pins required are 13 & 14 link them together Audio in ground pin 18 Left input pin 19 Right input pin 20 These are all in the blue plug. Disclaimer....... I have not tried this on Rover head units but it does work on many other Headunits with the standard ISO plugs. Worth just linking 13 & 14 together to see if the display changes.

Well it didn't work . Guess it needs a signal to enable cd changer functions. Time to crack open the unit and mod the internal one instead and do a 74 minute sound of silence cd

Thanks for letting me know.
It works on the Panda and after the mod pressing "media" AUX comes up on the display and audio can then be sent to the required pin connections. I've also done this mod on a neighbours Peugeot. Perhaps with older headunits it's a no go.

Ive done the mod in ford and vauxhall VDO units, just this cd413x ain't playing ball. And other bad point there are no marking on the motherboard, I found the IC amplifier, but as it has 4 inputs on the chip and a multilayer board I ain't got round to tracing the inputs yet as MOT prepwork comes first, but if sussed will put up the info for others.

Aux input hack DONE
Well as the car's going for MOT this afternoon and off work for the week I thought I might as well do the pin traces today on the radio, and got it working!!
So now I have Radio CD and AUX via CD. The trick was to patch into the CD to headunit cable, pins 12 13 and 14 to be exact. Pin 12 and 14 are your signal wires, pin 13 is the audio ground. To get around the no cd present its just a case of using audacity to create a 70 minute track of silence, you can use it with a normal cd as it cuts around 95% of the sound from the disc when you plug it into the phone, but I prefer the silent CD option. |
