I think you will find they are a standard continental feature for holding Vignette's (temporary tax tickets) when moving across borders..

Ford uses separate power supplies for left and right.
The elements are laminated into the glass, so not a doable DIY mod; you'd have to get a custom screen manufactured.
Where the heated screen wins out over A/C demister is in icy conditions.
Often in winter when I scrape the windscreen, it has refrozen by the time I'm a mile down the road and the engine is not yet warm enough.
This just doesn't happen with a heated screen.
MGR & BMW didn't have access to the technology, as Jaguar held the patents.
Ford co-opted the technology when they bought Jaguar and kept access to it when they offloaded to Tata.
The patent expires very soon, so I expect other manufacturers will jump on the bandwagon, but I can't see a retrofit market emerging

Resurrecting an old post I know, but I've only just read the whole thing.

Best solution to frosty mornings I've found, is one of these. 30 seconds to put it on, 30 seconds to take it off again. No more frost problems.



Oh yes, and I have manual wipers, therefore have the intermittent feature as standard. Just miss cruise control, 6th gear, autofold mirrors and a driver's cup holder. Nothing impossible to retrofit except 6th
