Classic Car shows.
Does anyone have any thoughts on entering Rover 75s or ZTs into classic car shows, as I have recently tried to enter my Rover 75 into two seperate classic car shows and both organisers have advised my car is too new and they would only consider cars either 20 or 25 years old or older. Both shows are open to all classic cars.

I suppose technically a car is not considered a classic until it is heading towards 20 years or even more.
However, there has been a 75 club stand at the NEC Classic Car show for quite a few years now and there are club meetings at classic car gatherings around the country. They are getting there. |

As I see it, the issue is that a lot of shows won't let 'moderns' in, unless they're part of a club stand. I've seen one or two year old Jags at shows on several occasions. The other thing is that, although the earliest 75s are now 14, yours, being a facelift, isn't ten yet. I suspect that a pre-facelift, particularly, an early car, would be easier to get into a show. A lot of these shows fail to remember that in the 80s, MGBs of less than ten years old were attending 'Classic car rallies'. However, our cars don't rust like that, so it's understandable to a point, but hardly encouraging new people into classic cars!

Same question came up with a local car club (which I must admit I was instrumental in setting up). The question of what is a Classic car came up. It was decided that our cars were "modern classics" as the manufacturer had ceased to exist, and therefore were eligible to be included in the shows.
The fact that the NEC also acknowledges that fact did help

I have booked a club stand at this event and you would be welcome to come along
http://www.visitnewquay.org/events/t...-show-p1079123 But have been told that the cars are too young at other events many classic show only allow pre 1975 cars. Cheers Ian

Oops! The original Tetbury show was held on a small field - and with tight space came narrow criteria, as I recall, but since we successfully moved it to the grounds of the local comprehensive school, we expanded to showing over 500 cars, 300 bikes, and parking well over 400 "moderns" in the field next door. We billed it as "The Biggest Classsic Vehicle Show in Gloucestershire!" by the way, since it was - and we knew it would wind up our friends in Tewkesbury... It was, as always, no charge to enter if you came to show your classic - but buy something from one of the 150 stalls if you like - and bung something in one of the charity buckets if you will. I think the notional "classic" cut off was 1985 - but we had a large section of "modern classics" which housed a heck of a lot of nice cars - and I'd have been glad if Rovers of all stripes had been part of it - of course. Of course! I'm not sure about the car show going forward - we haven't actually run it for a few years now, (since believe it or not running a completely charitable no-charge-to-classic-entrants non-profit car show is a right pain in the bum!) - but the charity we used to give all the profits to miss our input, so I'll keep you in loop about 2022, if you like. My favourite attendees at the last show? You really want to know? The PT Cruisers. A nicer bunch of people you'd go a long way to find.
