Went out in the V6 today, amazing how sensitive and responsive the traction control is,considering it is 19 years old.Regards Ry...

It’s not any discipline of science at all. It’s the impossible dream. You won't get it to start in 2nd.

So what have we learned today?

Automatic and Tiptronic are NOT the same thing.

No wonder there are some rattly old auto boxes out there!

I haven't seen a Rover 75 automatic, but in other cars - including at least one that I had - the snow mode forces the car to start moving in second gear instead of first. I can't see the point of restricting driving in gears above second. That must make them scream at 60 or 70 km/h.

It's useful for engine braking e.g. downhill, in the same way you might use 3rd gear on a manual. They're not designed to restrict driving.

Dougie.

3 is great for down steep hill's, moving it into 4 is good on some windier roads as it doesn't change to 5th and if you are going to be stopping and starting a bit as Sport is horrible (and actually slower than D ) in my opinion for moving off from a standing start
