car hit my wall does it need reporting
My front wall has been reversed into. Driver has admitted to my wife they did it. Does it need reporting to the police? The have refused to give their insurance details and want a quote to see how much it will be. If not to much they will pay..... I hope. If too much they say they will go thru their insurance, I think this is for me preferred. No issues getting money and also it will load their insurance
my question is: Legally, does this need to be reported to the police? I watched it happen. unbelievable. Just poor driving. macafee2 |

If no-one is injured it does not need to be reported. Try to get a note where they admit liability.
Oops No! I am wrong. See here:- https://www.confused.com/on-the-road...a-car-accident

I would, the fact they've refused to give insurance details would have me suspicious.

When anyone has an accident and causes damage to(a) another vehicle. (B) street furniture. (C) to someone's property or a person, you are required by law to provide your identity and insurance details to anyone involved. Since your wall was damaged, they have to provide you with their details. If they refused, I would report it to the police. If no one is around, they must report it to the police within 24 hours.

I believe that refusing to give insurance details following an accident is a criminal offence.

It would be wise get a note admitting they were at fault, then ask for his insurance, or get a quote, and get him to give you cash, Rev |

And pictures. Always take pictures of the damage, the car, the damage to the car, the wall, and if possible the driver. My dad had an incident with a bus driver cutting the junction corner too tight, hit the wall and actually got stuck. Refused to give his name, details or anything and just kept telling me to contact his company.
I didn't, I contacted the police who immediately came down and did him for something or other. They had to come anyway as the entire road was blocked by his bus. Also took nearly a year for them to pay for the repairs. The driver tried to deny it, but seeing as it took a tractor to pull the bus off the wall, and the bus was full of passengers, I don't see how he thought he could deny it! I had to supply the photos I had taken of the driver, who denied it was him, the damage, which he denied existed, and the bus number which he said he wasn't driving! Without the photos, I'm not sure what would have happened. Even Juliet (the attending cop who I know) was incredulous as to his attitude. Long story, but yes, report it to the police, because if he changes his mind about being honest, you are knackered if there's no record of it; things get complicated. Plus, you owe the person nothing as it was their fault, so don't get stung by being nice. |

I called 101, it does not need reporting to the police. Apparently my household insurance will be able to trace his car insurance details. If it goes via insurance and written quotes it will cost more to repair but what do I care, I'm not paying but I would like the builder I use to do the job but he is now "retired" so works cash in hand and if I need a quote I doubt he can do it.
