Angry Help please, Heater/thermostat problem

2001 75 Conny tourer 2.0v6.

I first noticed about a couple of months ago the heater wasn't operating properly.
I started when my wife said she felt cold (she always feels cold) so I kinda dismissed it. Then after a few complaints I checked and sure enough the passenger side was blowing cold air.
Drivers side was fine so I thought it to be an electrical issue with the heating system.
Then the drivers side got cold! I also noticed when driving at speed the gauge needle went down a bit, so I linked it to the thermostat.
Now I noticed the drivers rear footwell is filling with water.
There is no leak from the system as I still see water in the expansion tank.
Are these all linked or could the water ingress be a separate issue?
Is it as I suspect the thermostat or the sensor?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Cliff
Oh and Happy new year to one and all.
