thanks Klarzy, may well take you up on that in the future if I can't get to the bottom of it - been to see you once before for my apk, so when I can factor in a journey that direction I may well be in touch. Very grateful for your offer.

Been looking at it today. its temperamental i think - works sometimes not others. Its raining today. I reckon I will see what it does on a dry day and see where I am.

T-Cut, pretty sure it worked fine before.

truth is I don't use levelling, and i can get it down and the beam height is currently fine, so maybe I won't lose too much sleep. Its just annoying

Thanks for explaining that Phil

i'm going to put my old lights back in this weekend I've decided to see if the motors DO work on the old lights. If they work I guess they will have to stay in. Gutted.

With regards to Klarzy's suggestion of checking the LSM connector, that is the circuitry at the back of the switch inside the car isn't it?

exactly, remove the rhs facia and a few screws will see it free, check for damp in the big multi pin connector, make and brake the plug a few times...

cheers for that. I'm hopeful that its more likely a screwed up light switch module than the lights, but time will tell. May need to get a new one and recode it if so

ok removed the light switch module today - plugged, unplugged, plugged etc etc. No signs of corrosion, but made no difference.

If I get another light switch module, I can just plug it in and test it, then disconnect it and reconnect the proper one without screwing up my car can't I? I know they are coded to the car, and make errors with the mileage too - I won't drive the car while I do this obviously? I just want to see if the adjuster on that behaves differently - that should eliminate or implicate the switch module, leaving me to rule out the wiring or the headlight itself.

Also, I read somewhere someone said about oiling something inside the light using light oil and a straw to drip it on carefully to make sure it moves freely. Not sure if this could be my problem, but I've pulled the rubber cup off the back (its still on the car btw) - what am i looking for in here to oil? Pics would be fantastic, if not , what to look for and where to look is what I'm after if anyone can help?

thanks!!

short term LSM will give no issues, the threads on the manual adjusters can do with some light lube from time to time, but should not effect this.

with the rubber cover off can you wiggle the mechanism with your fingers.... does the chrome part move??

so the drive motor linkage is all sound, if the top does not move then the upper clips are home, that leaves a bad motor drive or not plugged in motor drive or bad wiring in your loom...

my bet is bad wiring or bad switch because it does move up and down fine, but just the once when you first turn on.

If i can get the light cable out of the passenger side one and plug it in to my old halogen one I might be able to test without the whole bumper coming off for no other reason. Any reason that might be a bad idea?
