ok finally got to the bottom of this and they are now working.

in case this helps others I will explain what happened.

Put my old halogen light in on the drivers side, and the adjuster worked fine on both the old halogen drivers side, and the xenon on the passenger side. So, not wiring, and probably a light. Swapped the lights around, and put the working halogen from drivers side connected to the passenger side temporarily, and put the suspect xenon in on the drivers side where it belonged - sure enough it didn't work.

Had a peak at the external beam adjuster screws and oiled them with white grease, unscrewed and rescrewed a bit to work it all in, then reconnected. Problem solved.

Conclusion - adjuster mechanism was sticking on the driver side headlight, and when it encounters physical resistance, it gave up trying to move it on both sides as a safety measure perhaps.

Either way this particularly frustrating problem is now solved and the xenons work fully with manual adjustment available at all times. Maybe this will help someone else in the future.

Question Xenon Headlight mystery solved...!!

Hi Peter:

Your problem on the Xenon headlights manual level looks more or less the same with the one that I have right now, but with one slight difference, I did change my Halogens for Xenons yesterday and they are not moving at all.

But reconstructing the "crime scenario " I´m not sure if my problem is one or both of the headlights mechanisms struck at the end of the travel. To be sure I´ll use your "swap one of a time technique".

I wonder if I can use molybdenum grease on the gear components, it´s the right grease?

Kind regards
Joel Antonio.

That's how mine are in operation. It doesn't use the self leveller but just the manual adjustment when required. Works fine that way.

Smile Gears regreased

Hi Peter:

Bull's eye!!! I just regreased all the points on the gears mechanisms and now they are moving freely again vertical adjust can be done with a hex but horizontal gear adjustment are gone in both sides. I'll sorting the problem this weekend with flex cables attached to the shaft with some spares RC that I have.

Cheers
Joel Antonio
