Spent the afternoon replacing the power steering pump. It started making a nasty noise yesterday and then proceeded to dump all it's fluid. Unfortunately most of this went all over the alternator and I'm now hoping that this doesn't throw it's hat in.
Bit of a messy, fiddly job not helped by the frequent rain showers but all done now

Been a busy chappy this evening, I've had an issue with my micro switch on the boot since I've had the car and did try and tackle it early on but with 2 torx screws rusted to death I got half way in to the job and had no way of removing it. After trying to put the pram in and 200 other things when you have a child I'd had enough of dropping everything and going to the release button by the bonnet catch. This is 7 O'Clock at this point but for some reason this had to be done NOW! Spent 2 hours drilling the two screws out but finally got er done Luckily I'd got a new replacement but it was blue mg part and mine is rover and chrome, I thought this would be easy enough... first mistake! The case is glued in and clipped and epoxy'd in so not a simple swap therefore had to remove the electrics which also wasnt so easy but was doable. Got that swapped over and got it in and voilà I have a boot that works! Also put some led side lights in as the new projectors only had standard bulbs, the upgrade is worth it but was stupidly fiddly as the leds are about 3mm longer but that stopped the access, luckily they are cheal and I could bend the plastic into the fitting. 20141001_221754.jpg

Washed, medium clay barred (twice), fine clay barred (to be sure), waxed (twice - it will likely not get more than a quick polish til the new year), polished (twice - just in case I missed anything the first time).
Bumper gelled the rubber bonnet boot and door seals, windscreen base and plenum covers, cleaned the interior plastics, polished the glass, and Gliptoned the leather. |

Picked up the 190 from Slough and drove it home to Peterborough, where I immediately started to clean the interior. Quick wash on the outside, fitted stereo and replaced front and rear badges.
Also did a lot of research regarding vis motors. |

Fitted new brake disks and pads all round on the Tourer, Delphi front, Bendix rear, both front droplinks (from DMGRS) genuine MG.
Oil change, filter with Shell Helix 10/40....Labour £100. I supplied all parts +oil, I was happy with "my" mechanics charge. I thought new droplinks would cure the thud/clunk from front nearside but it`s still there, on the last MOT advisory (before I bought the car) it said: "Nearside Front suspension has slight movement at a suspension ball joint" What do I need to cure this? Ken. |
