happens on mine too, especially after rain, I remove the rubber /plastic switch cover, spray wd40 inside and replace the cover, usually gets it working for half a dozen goes. Periods of dry weather seem to stop the problem, so I guess its water from the window surround getting where it shouldn,t.

Hi Robert.
Is it not opening / popping up when using the fob either ? by holding down on the fob after you have opened the doors etc.

Coincidence or what , tailgate button just clicked this morning as usual but tailgate didn’t open, an hour later seen your post so tried locking and unlocking with the fob and tried holding the unlock button a few extra seconds, I should say I also locked unlocked then pressed the unlock button again and the tailgate now opens (at least 6 times), so many thanks for the suggestion

Hi Robert.
Good to hear it's opening i never really use the open switch on the tail gate i always open the car with fob then press the fob again holding the fob button down for at least 3 seconds and the tailgate always pops off the latch and you then just pull it up by using the number plate light cover

HI Robert.
you may be unlucky in that from 03 onwards the BCU was different so any facelift car or just before had the remote boot opening, having said that if you want to have the remote opening then all you need to do is purchase, a mark 2 BCU from a tourer and then add it to your car, then have a T4 session to enable the BCU change over.

Big Russ, Jamie, Trikey, or any T4 operator near you could do this.

Thanks for the clear explanation, my 03 mk1 I would say is poverty spec no extra wiring behind the centre console so that would explain it
