When it come to nuclear weapons I'm rather on the fence. I'd like to see the world rid of them, a place like North Korea could literally destroy the planet, they fire one in the first instance then Donald retaliates, those two don't need us to kill our planet now do they?
In a way I believe we actually need Trident or it's replacement as the "deterrent" side of them exists whether your leader presses the button or not which I believe has little to do with it. If its going to happen JC is right, just more millions will die for what? Plus don't forget the fallout, Chernobyl should be a stern reminder to those that push nuclear weapons and of course WW2 and Japan..... please don't forget the aftermath.
OK there has been issues about the IRA, I'm sure JC will take this to his grave, he has denounced terrorism and I firmly believe in his mind he regrets things just like every single one of us do, he is still human remember and just because he is the leader of a political party does that mean he cannot make mistakes??
I am worried that many countries are heading more right wing, the move away from socialism is scary. Look at the UK, we have lost so much manufacturing, we are burdened with rip off gas and electric suppliers, water that is privately run all for profit at the expense of the population, railways that frankly are way too expensive and all done in my view by the mistakes of Maggie.
So I think there is no person in politics that you can say he or she is 100% honest or squeaky clean.
At the end of the day if May gets in I think we will have a gunk, if Corbyn gets in there may be more compassion and a change to more social values, it'll cost us and the greedy will be up in arms but I do feel it could and I say could be a fairer country.
An interesting view Trevor, and one which I support. I think we all agree that JC is not a polished spin doctor. In fact, he is pretty lousy at it. Some of his past is not helping. The old guard (or the established warlords as I call them) of the labour party are not behind him. Yet, he has twice won the leadership election. Further, under his leadership, the labour party is now predicted to have the support of somewhere between 33% and 39% of the voting public. Given the aforementioned factors, one can only assume that it is this labour party's policies, developed under JC's leadership, that are responsible for this level of support.

In my mind, there is not any doubt that the Tory party will win this election. Strategically, this will actually be the best outcome. I feel that the effects of austerity have not yet hit really hard, so another five years of a Tory government are probably what is needed for the voting public to be able to really differentiate between true Tory and true Labour idealogies.

I think it is the election in five year's time when the voting public will really decide what sort of a society they wish to be part of. Whilst this is unfortunate for JC personally, I believe he will leave a positive, long-term legacy as the person who steered the labour party back to its roots and being a labour movement for the working person.

Just my opinion of course and many others will no doubt have alternate views.

Addendum

Is it just me or are some posts starting to feel like party political broadcasts, with non-factual made-up lines about some parties' positions?

Not singling out any posts in particular, but just wondering, as this is supposed to be a non-political thread allowing discussion on TV debates.

Now back to the cars outside - the Omega is slowly being put back together after all the trim was removed for welding of the sills.

Personally speaking, Phil, that is the most attractive aspect of TM. So it's working with some of us young at heart voters also.

Dude! I've been saying that for AGES! The NHS isn't underfunded, it is overmanaged! No matter how much money you throw at the NHS, there will NEVER be enough to cure everyone of everything: the demands on it are increasingly vast, the aging population also not helping, but there is a lot of money in that institution, but so much of it doesn't get to the purchasing of hypodermics or scalpels due to non-medical managers. It needs a reshuffle and completely sorting out properly.

Again, EVERY politician is "we will spend more on the NHS than the other party" instead of actually dealing with the issue. Another opportunity of much needed reform wasted again in this election.

Oh, bless you Matthew! That's the very first time anyone has ever called me Dude! Absolutely over the moon. Celia was looking over my shoulder and, when she had come down to earth, said she was going to walk around all day calling me it! She said she can't wait to tell our daughters! I'll have to get skinny jeans now. Oh, and amend my will concerning my epitaph.

Mysterious "money tree" ony available to one side, if you have lived through previous (perhaps well meaning experiments) you will know the cost,- even longer periods of so called austerity until the books can be balanced again. Sincerity and long held convictions (would not defend Uk with ultimate weapon) count for nothing I am afraid.

They are long held convictions only until other people's money has run out. To spend a lifetime trying to perpetuate what has been tried and failed countless times is futility in the extreme. To refuse to keep the very basic requirement (of a Prime Minister), that is the defence of the realm, renders the holder unfit.

It's not time for the next Labour government yet.
The cycle is well established, it's been going on since just after WW1
After they have practically bankrupted the country with their "socially aware" policies, they are supposed to hide on the opposition benches shouting "TORY CUTS!!" until the books are balanced.
Then they come back and start running up the credit cards again.

On a lighter note, I think it was the 1992 GE when one of the parties standing was called 'The best party I have ever been too, Party'
Where are they now when we need them??!!

Just look at the rise in the national debt in the last 7 years under the Tory government. They masquerade as the party that is financially competent.

Thank you for keeping this thread on topic and talking about the TV appearances as opposed to making it about political views - not an easy task for any of us

There do seem to be some more political posts appearing please don't let's turn this into a political debate as then we will have to close it down as per club rules.

I've not closed the thread or deleted any of the more political statements but will do so if they continue.
