Default Coolant leak

Have a leak somewhere. Seems to be coming from back of engine. Drops can be seen from behind the gearbox almost centre of engine bay to the nearside. But, I have bubble in expansion tank sometimes; so is the dripping running along the edge at the back from the thermostat? Seem to remember someone telling me bubbles into expansion tank was a cracked thermostat. Driving me nuts have to top up quite a lot although its not as bad since I replaced the expansion cap lid.

Bump as I need to know. Need to be mobile mainly in case my son, who has leukaemia, needs to get to hossie within a couple of hours. I did the never never and used radweld. Does it dry as blue rubber???? asking s there is a blue rubbery deposit now at the seal of the thermostat. Saying that am assuming that the gap there is now sealed so why am I still losing coolant??

The seal at the back of the thermostat has gone. It is blue rubber, so probably squeezed out. rad weld will not help really.

Can be replaced easily, just lots of bits to remove and very small hands help.

Would that be why I overheated on a long trip which is when I really noticed the leak. Red light overheat(the only time Ive seen above 9 o clock). 2 mins later all good ready to go. Since then coolant on top of expansion tank as Im not sure my replacement is kosha.. even if it it from landie spares company... only get leaks now and agin showing under car. coolant still disappears. So thermo is next on list...

I still have a flywheel clutch etc to get sorted. Which slave should I get for HN52 XMB as there are 2, one that needs new master and other nthat doesnt?

Alan; for future reference, don't use any sealant additives. They just cause more problems. Make sure that you drain the cooling system fully, including using the cylinder block drain plug, and attempt to flush as much of it out as possible.

Here's the refilling/bleeding procedure you need to follow.

well that was a search and a half or at least Im guessing Ive found the culprit. My leak, a guess as Ive not witnessed it, appears to be coming from the area of the drain plug. Always near back of engine at the leftish hand side. But as Ive seen blue rubber at the thermostat and have been advised seal is gone I guess I'll replace that too. Am assuming a possible test would be to take drain plug off and then use threadseal and then go from there?
