Check BOTH rear numberplate lights.
Front sidelights are a prime candidate for hiding their failure.
And IF you've fitted LED bulbs .....

Sometimes the system shows a fault when it's on the terminals, i.e. a dodgy connection. Worth remembering we have bulbs in the glove box and near the spare wheel.

Sometimes I get a warning and it's solved in the old fashioned way by smacking the front lights, for the short term.

I have been getting an intermittent warning for the front left sidelight.
I took a look and it seems that you need to remove the V6 air filter box to get at the bulb easily. I have decided that I will leave it for now as I have the daytime running light option selected so there is light there. When the warning starts really annoying me I will get motivated and sort it out properly.

The most likely culprit is a defective numberplate light PCB........sell the car quickly

Helped a local owner with the same problem, the bulb holder was corroded, gave it a quick blast with sand and all good. No need to remove the filter box, can get access through the wheelarch inspection hatch.
