Rushing water noise?
Been to my 2000 1.8 Club SE today and started her up, hasn't been started in about 3 weeks. She is stored in the under hotel car park at work over winter. She fired up straight away as always!
However when I blip the throttle there is like of a surging water noise I can here from the inside the car, sounds like somewhere around the engine compartment side of the bulk head. I did I checked all the levels before I started the engine. Water was a touch low, I'm talking just above minimum. Any ideas on what this could be? Thanks Tom |

Sounds like you have a blocked plenum chamber - is the sound predominantly from the passenger side behind the dash/bulkhead - if so points to a blocked plenum. If your car is a diesel its important you get the chamber drained ASAP or your ECU will be damaged - not so critical for a petrol ECU as these are sealed and waterproof.

You have air in the coolant system, does your heater work?

The heater works, I ran the temperature up a little and opened the cap and it burped a couple of small bubbles, I ran it up to temperature with the cap off but didn't get anymore.

It appears you have the intention of sorting out the fluids, as well as that pollen filter, in the Spring. So if all you are doing is starting it up, just keep an eye on the "loss" of fluids until then, once topped up to the correct maximum level.
However, I think that a draining and filling of the coolant may clear that surging. |

Give it a few revs for a minute or two with the coolant cap off see if you can get some of that trapped air out.
