Default Locked IN my own vehicle ....

I was actually locked inside my R.75 today with the alarm sounding. It began when the key's outer casing had worn away where the `lock' button should be; (Un-noticed by me) hence I inserted the key to start the engine. At this point all hell set loose: all locks went into secure mode; alarm sounded; windows closed. Hmmm thought I, some dilema, my cell-phone was of course in the house. Now being locked out is one thing but, locked in .... Having collected my thoughts and the alarm gone quiet again, time to take stock. Tried the key again, you guessed right; locks, alarm activated. Seems ages when you're waiting for silence...... Regroup ....
First I opened the key by removing the back panel, (battery access) only to see the tiny "break circuit switch" had come adrift from the circuit board; thus the circuit was in fact `open', since the switch bridges terminals on either side. Holding this in place and gently pressing the remote `unlock' it worked... I'm free. lol.
At present I have 2 keys, *( BigRuss has a PM.) one uncoded and the other with a temporary `fix' with believe it or not ... cellotape.!!!
Yes it's funny but, at least my car is driveable albeit to get me to the nearest micro-circuit company a.s.a.p or to purchase a micro, cold-solder iron and affect a good repair.
*Moral is ... get your second key coded now before you get locked IN. hahaha. Mike. aka "dummy."

*Update:
Having puhased a cold micro solder Iron, battery powered, I did the job today in about 15 mins. Used a tool called "Helping hands" from Maplins to counter my shaky grip due to longevity. All is now ok but stll need a new key from BigRuss a.s.a.p. *note although the front panel complete with blade is inter-changeable, the rear (battery access) is NOT as it holds a small unit unique to each circuit. Mike.

My brother has been locked in AND out of his car for the past few days.

It's a VW Passat and the central locking had a bit of a fit (quite common apparently) and decided to deadlock the drivers door (all the others were fine). No problem... just use the key in the door to unlock it... except the key just turns and turns because of the cheap and nastly bits of metal that hold it all together (another common fault apparently). So the only way to get the door open is pull off the door trim and the huge steel plate that's bolted to the inside of the door (not easy when it's locked shut!).

We finally got the door open today after 3 hours work with levers, tin snips, blocks of wood and a LARGE hammer! Turns out a small piece of plastic had broken inside the locking motor which then jammed the whole thing into the deadlock position.

Stupid, stupid, stupid design Don't let anyone tell you German cars are well made!!!

I think Scribbler meant that the windows were closed when he got into the car, it's unlikely they were all open Colvey. It's cold over here! lol..
