Asure double din problems

I have removed the kenwood unit and tried fitting....

Now I've removed the cup holders and heater unit to gain access to the lower bmw style connector lead that I need to use but plugging the unit in I get a power light then it goes off and won't come back on again....being a vauxhall man (mainly owned them) I've known canbus problems and to me this is what it seems like, plugging the old unit bk in it works fine ! I've got wires everywhere now and am in a right mess !! Help :-(
