A baffling electrical problem.
A few days ago whilst my head lights were on, my cars message centre informed me that the near side low beam lamp had failed.
A couple of days ago (daytime driving) this message centre warning disappeared. Then earlier today, this bulb failure warning reappeared on my message centre. During the “failure phase” with headlamps on low beam, the near side light unit still emitted light albeit at a lower intensity. However, that bulb failure warning disappeared tonight. Both low beam headlamps are currently burning at full intensity. A bit odd. I wonder whether a cables insulation could have become abraded and shorting – causing a possible current leakage. Are there any known weak spots that I should inspect, or does this necessitate checking the circuitry with a borrowed ECT2000 tester? I hope someone is able to offer some constructive suggestions. |

I recently experienced something like that.
All the beams were changed a few months ago. Then the gremlin appeared without any reason: sometimes one bulb failure, sometimes another and even general light failure, even without any bulb switched on, sometimes as soon as I was switching on the car in the morning, sometimes later in the day. It cleared itself once, reappeared, disappeared: it did it alternatively during nearly a fortnight. Along those days the whole bunch of lights were shining normally without any failure. And then the gremlin gave up one happy day and never had come back so far - fingers crossed. And I haven't done anything to cure it and I haven't any clue. My car is clean & tidy, no moisture and the weather here was rather hot & dry during that witchcraft show...

I had a similar problem with my indicators. Turned out to be a loose fitting bulb. Might be worthwhile checking.
Oh, but be careful with the rear lights. Drop a bulb into the main fitting and it's a nightmare to fish out again. Best solution is to take it off, retrieve the bulb then put it back on. After which keep an eye open for leaks from the disturbed seal. (Been there, done that.)
