It might be if interest to some that the Polish word for bicycle is 'rower' ('w' in Polish is pronounced as 'v' in English...) A rather nice example of a foreign generic noun with an English origin; others in Polish being 'adidasy' (trainers) and 'ksero' (photocopier).

Before anyone jumps in to correct me, yes I know, Adidas is German in origin, from the founder Adolf Dassler.....
