Slave fit not too good
Hi, so I have my Borg clutch and metal slave from DMF.
However the salve doesn't seem to fit very easily into place. The pipes seem to make it wonky on the gearbox shaft. It wont slide all the way back and the pipes seem catch on the bell housing hole. Also the hydraulic pipe seems much longer than the old plastic one. Does that matter? Here are some photos .. Last edited by rik007; 8th February 2016 at 19:40.. Reason: pic |

Richard
I have watched Andy Willi fit these slaves - I think you have to get the two pipes from the slave to pass either side of the small v-shaped 'post' that sticks up from the gearbox bellhousing (I can see this in your photos just behind where the 2 pipes come out of the slave cylinder), and then put the rubber grommet in place that the two pipes go through, and that should hold the slave in place over the input shaft sleeve whilst you re-fit the gearbox. The slave looks crooked on the pictures you posted, and does not look right to me - it should sit back on the brass-coloured sleeve over the input shaft - give Andy a call to get his expert opinion. He also told me there is knack to bleeding these metal slaves - it can take three 'gos' to get all the air out of them, apparently -again, you might want to talk to him directly about this, rather than take my word for it !. Good luck - let us know how it goes Pete |

Thanks Mike, great photo. I see it is a plastic type salve cylinder so hopefully Andy Willi will tell me how to seat the new one correctly. I see the 'V' post and the lay of the pipes so that's very helpful.

Well after some tea and a good few digestives .. (hobnobs would have been better), I got it centered up and fitted.
Had to do it twice though as the big knob from the universal clutch centralising device got stuck in the fingers of the pressure plate. It was not quiet wide enough to rest on the top of the fingers, so I cut a disc from some pesrpex then roughed it up so it would grip better and hey presto its in. The box was a considerable pain in the rear end, but with much wiggling it also came good. I used French Mike's twin strap affair to get it level and into place. Andy Willi's almost certainly better at this job and clearly practice would speed up the process. It seems you learn an awful lot along the way first time round the block on this job. So, hopefully I haven't knackered the fingers on the pressure plate and all is well. By the way I had to hold up the big plate between the gearbox and engine with a couple of small ties thought two lower bolt holes. Otherwise it kept dropping out of place. I just nipped them a pulled them out before pulling the box bolts up tight. So, just put the rest back together and bleed the clutch then hey presto go for a big raz up Hardknott Pass :-) Here is the perspex ring I made .. |
