£30k for the car, £10k for recommissioning, the owner ends up with a 75 for the the price of a basic Ford Mustang which I believe is the cheapest V8 to purchase brand new?
Yes probably, but the 2.3 Mustang has more power than the MG / Rover version, if I had to choose it would be the 5.0 Mustang

Only women would choose a 2.3 Mustang, or perhaps a man who had a very high Soy consumption.

But it's not brand new though sadly, it's thirteen years old at the very least, and registered while it still could be done in 2008

Money spent on that could be better put to use elsewhere, and it won't be worth 40,000 pounds once back on the road, that's if you can source all the unobtainium parts to recommission it in the first place.

My advice would be to actually take a V8 75 for a spin, or a ZT260 and don't let your love for the R40 cloud your judgement, because driving the V8 models is a completely different experience.......and not necessarily in a good way

They are quirky in ways that let you know you are driving a prototype vehicle, which is fine for some, but not for others
