Mysterious Knocking Sound
Had ol' Betsy into another garage overnight to see if they could identify and cure the strange knocking noise from the front nearside
This noise doesn't affect the steering or braking, but jeez, is it annoying or what ! It sounds as though something is tapping against the bulkhead, and it occurs at any speed and 2 garages have heard it but have so far failed to diagnose the cause, so I wonder if any of you chaps have heard of this or could it be that I have a poltergeist passenger ?

just had the 3rd garage on the blower ...and their verdict ??? 'Our man has heard the noise but we are unable to identify it...my advice is to wait until it gets REALLY bad or something falls off and then something can be done' the wonders of modern technology eh ?

I have a similar noise on my ZT190.
I replaced the totally shot lower mount last weekend but now have a distinct RAP that sounds like someone tapping the firewall at low speeds, or even when letting off the clutch when stationary. The next step will be replacing the drop links. There's no harm in that anyway so it's worth a try. If that doesn't solve it??? I'll be watching this thread!

It was the ball joints on my off side arm that did it on mine, I had checked it on my mates MOT testing shaker and no movement and had it in the air numerous times but it was not until I had it off the car that you could feel the movement at some angles.

I have the same. I’ve had engine mounts fixed, exhaust brackets fixed, drop links done and it’s still there... I’ve had to learn to live with it ...

Get them to take a look at the lower wishbone bushes, they do not have to be completely gone to send a knocking sound onto the fire wall or at the front of the car, they could just be very weak due to age.

Battery holding down bolt come loose? Loose wheel bolts? Track rod ends/ Inner tie rods/ drive shaft joints or splines? Wishbone rear bush or drop links/ball joints? Glove box contents (CDplayers come loose if you have one there)? Strut top mount bearing? Lower engine mount? Undertray fixings loose or missing? Anti roll bar bushes worn? Gearbox linkage or mountings?

Same here i'm afraid, I'd been through all the ARB bushes, drop links, strut top bearings and arm bushes. Finally had the lower arms changed ( around three yr ago now) and it cured the problem

Wishbone bush should be easy to check. Wheel off, reach in, wobble up and down
