Default Rover 75 diesel not starting after HPFP replacement

Clutch failed several months ago, due to be done next weekend. Car was running fine before the clutch problem, started the car to get the fluids round and noticed a leaking HPFP, in the end a replacement from Arctic has gone in. Pump is back on and no leaks, car all back together and car won’t start, just cranks.

Battery charged up, pScan shows glow plug system? Everything was running fine until the clutch went which is what took it off the road and the HPFP leak developed once the car was sitting for a while.

All the sensors are plugged in, can’t think what it could be, any advice would be welcome.

Regards

Glowplug fault is a red herring - every one I've checked comes up with that. What are the fuel pressures, LP and HP?

I’ll see what they are when cranking with PScan, back shortly.

So the error codes currently are:

Glow plug system
Boost pressure sensor
Rail pressure sensor

The low pressure when key at position 2 is 353 kPa, I can’t get reading for the rail pressure as engine not running. My ZTT is giving a reading of 355.

Regards

Jon

What rail pressure do you get while cranking? You shoudl be hitting 30,000kpa, if you don't it won't start.

The HPFP has a check valve in the inlet. If it's a 2nd hand pump that's sat around for a while, it might be that the valve is stuck. This happened to me after my car sat for a number of months. Might be worth checking?

Undo the 3 bolts holding the power steering reservoir and move it to the side. Undo the hose clamp, access is tricky, I removed the engine cover and fed in a long flat bladed screwdriver from the right hand side (looking at the engine from the front of the car). Pull off the hose. Use a parallel pin punch or screwdriver to press on the ball in the inlet fitting. You should feel it moving back and forth with a spring behind it.

I’m not sure how to measure the cranking pressure, PScan shows 0 for the rail pressure when cranking.

Hi Matt,

I will give this a go later today and see if it helps.

So I did take the pipe off and it was sticky, freed it up and it now moves freely, however car still won’t start. Under bonnet pump is working fine.

Can the timing slip somehow? Could it be a position sensor?
Are there any other readings I can check on PScan?

Regards

Here's the thread from when I had my non-starting problem, there might be useful info in there: https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/for...d.php?t=320259

Have you tried a squirt of Easy Start (or similar) down the intercooler hose? If it starts and runs on this, that could be indicative of a fuel pressure regulator issue.
