Easy subframe gearbox and clutch removal
Having finally got around to changing the clutch at 150,000 miles i have found a novel way to remove the gearbox on my own, and without a hoist, or jack under it, hope it helps others , just put it on youtube as ROVER 75 EASY SUBFRAME GEARBOX AND CLUTCH REMOVAL

Came a couple of weeks too late for me but I just watched the video and it's very good indeed. Good, clear and well edited.
Thank you Jon. |

I have now seen a technique to rival the Andy Willi Indian rope trick.
Brilliant stuff, thanks for posting that. Nice use of the car ramps to secure the car under the jacking points as well. I like the appliance of science to tasks like this, and the fine adjustment afforded by that threaded rod must make realignment a doddle. Great video. Yes, it is very easy lifting the gearbox back up and realigning it, and i found that you dont need to remove the driveshafts from the hubs, just pull them out of the gearbox (forgot to mention on the video to remove the gearbox oil just before this operation ) and the plate on the subframe also makes lifting and aligning that, easy. With no one to assist me, i had put this job off for quite a while, which gave me time to think,( there is usually an answer) IT IS EASY THIS WAY, and would probably work on other cars/engines. colin james

Hi.
I have moved this Thread into the Technical help area where it will get more views. I'm sure it could well land up in the "How to" section as this is an excellent way of removing the gearbox. Thank you for sharing.

if this is the one, it is not as easy as it makes out
https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q...1D2A&FORM=VIRE Engine is tilted but gearbox wants to hang horizontal. This is the method I used macafee2 |
