If you (and the garage) are really stuck, get in touch with Phil Davies (philT4) who is down this way tomorrow with his T4, and he knows how to use it!

righto then!
went onto the machine today, 2 faults thrown up. MAF and fuel rail sensor. went into real time diagnostics and MAF was working fine and fuel pressures are all ok. he checked over all the pipes, intercooler and was flumoxed as all the parameters are fine. reset the faults and drove for 10 mins around the block, ecu says everythings fine. got home and thought.......i wonder if the synergy box is doing anything even when off. unplugged it and now she revs to the redline with no load, but goes to 3k, takes a breath and then revs out. still no real power with the Maf connected though, but at least unplugged she is a bit more driveable. any more thoughts anyone!
