Found one on my car once the night before the MOT. Couldn't get a replacement in time so put it in anyway and it passed.

That is what I call gross negligence. Driving with a broken spring for 2 years.

Unladen with a broken turn in the spring pan you'd be really observant to see much change in ride height, laden though the back end will sag far more than usual.

All sorted

Even though it needed parts sourcing, it was fixed the very same day and the guys at John Woods Motorcare even stayed open late to enable us to come and pick it up out of hours.

Yet again, I have reason to praise the excellent service received from all the team at John Woods Motorcare.

It's the old school level of customer service that you just don't get these days - many thanks again guys.

Yes, if he knew about it that is negligent, but, if he is not the sort of owner that never goes under his vehicle for whatever reason then it would/could be missed. I have posted something like this before, an MOT tester is not allowed or required to go groping around with his/her fingers at the very bottom of the spring, so if it`s broke on the first coil it would be missed on testing.
Ken.

Im Sorry Ken but this is not true, an mot tester should be doing exactly this! The thing with rear springs is that you can not see the lower coil with the wheel on and whilst the car is on a four post ramp you can't get your hand in to feel the lower coil which is why they are often missed. A mirror isn't part of the mot tool kit but extremely handy in this situation

If I am wrong then I accept that but, I have read it somewhere, perhaps it was "fake news"
Ken.
Edit: I will check this with a tester early in the week.

Disagree. When I was told of my broken rear spring , It was not evident, and the car always appeared level ( by eye, you dont go round checking by ruler if it looks ok ). So I dont know how long it had been broken .
