Default Headlights stuck

Guys… what’s the function of the headlights moving up into position when switched on? Why don’t they just stay up?

Main reason I’m asking is that mine stopped doing it a while ago – fortunately, they seem to have stuck in the “up” position, so no problem. Unless you tell me different…

I don't know for sure, but it might be to try to prevent them seizing in one particular position.
I.e., if you had the thumb wheel adjust button, it would function, if required.
Just a guess mind you....

There are 2 answers 1. You have self leveling control (HID's or Xenons) 2. You have a "thumb wheel" control "0,1,2" on your light switch module. 0 = normal 2 = heavy loads. Stops you blinding the vehicle in front. Hope this helps.

Yes Ive always wondered why they don't stay in the last position selected .
The motors just move them back to where they were set anyway .

When you turn the lights on, they do a self level test, they all do it, if you have self levelling suspension, there are two arms on the lower o/side suspension arms, front & back, if one of them gets inverted, it stops the lights moving.

If you have normal lights with the thumb wheel adjuster, it could be the little ball & socket arms inside the lens have popped apart, these can be popped back in if you're lucky.

Well... I haven't got xenons, but I have got the little adjustment wheel. But that doesn't tell me why they move every time you merely turn them on...

Thanks mate - thing is, I think the thumb wheel moves them OK - just don't understand why they kind of lift themselves into position every time I just start the car and switch them on... but I'm going out in a minute and will check the thumb wheel still works...

It's self testing.
