If you need a bit more MPG Roy, swap it for a standard rover 75 manual box mate.

Was going to ask why my newly purchased 190 seems to have much lower gearing than my connie diesel - now i know it's the way they are!.

As I understand it, the gearbox ratios for the 190 are unique, even 5th is not really a cruising gear, it's one of the things that was done to improve the acceleration and performance, of course the trade off is the fuel consumption, you don't get owt for nowt

I get 23.3 over a 10 mile run in traffic (rush hour).to give you a idea how bad it is 10 miles can take between 40 min and a hour .
best I have ever got was 42.00 on a run and keeping down to just over the 60mph so we was in 5th gear. car is a 2.5 177bhp with a auto box and 68 thousand on the clock. |

I did another test yesterday on the way home from work in approx 3.30pm traffic - quite light, and got over 40. On the way to work I have hardly any traffic. I do a fair bit of coasting so do a lot of preemptive driving. Safer that way too!
