Not an 'old man's' car

but.....

A persons mature choice of car.

Forget what others think, thats good advice for lots of things in life.

Welcome to the forum and your mature choice of car!

Cheers. It is almost run in now then. We have cars in this club that have done moon mileage, and back again. How many of your Astra’s and Aygo’s have got half as far? You have picked the best engined of the 75’s. ( puts tin helmet on and awaiting incoming flack).

Good choice of first Car

my 75 is my first Car - tho I never sat my driving test til i was in my mid 30s

Better to be driving an "Old Man's Car" than a "Wee Boy's Car"

Same here!

Rover 75s are and always have been old man's cars. Whenever I see one on the road the pilot is usually 'of a certain age'.

As long as people have a negative view of MGR and never buy them, there are more good ones left for us to buy.
We benefit from the low purchase price, easy maintenance and quality ride.
It just goes to prove how tarnished the brand became and why it may never appear again.
The only gripe I have is with people who talk total rubbish when they clearly have no idea what they are on about. Apparently my Rover 75 2.0 V6 is reliable because of its Honda engine and some think it’s a BMW engine. One bloke even argued with me about what engine was under the bonnet.
Being a car for an old man is way down the list of worries to concern me.

My o/h ''made'' me sell one of our rovers a couple of weeks ago so reluctantly I listed the 2.5 v6 saloon.

I was delighted when it sold to a 24 year old who was buying it as the first car he has owned. He said he'd been looking for one for a year.

Lovely fella apparently and a member on here.

I left a badge in it and instead of popping it in the post he drove the hour from where he lives to my wee house to return it.

So, no, not old men's cars at all.

Rover sport did their bit with the tomcat and 16v honda engined 200 race series, there was even a failed attempt at a rally version of the 25, but a 1900 K series was never going to last. During this period my own attempts at racing an m16 metro had considerable help from Rover Sport - cheap parts, free parts, stickers, sow on badges etc, and nice people to deal with at the factory. But undeniably they were still perceived as "grandad cars".
Then the MG Z series came allong, too late I suppose, and with not enough added performance from the engines. My wife still calls my zt 190 a grandad car, but I still like it, mostly, even after 100k miles as my daily driver, so it can't be bad.
My next car? Looking at volvo t5 or saab 9-5 turbo - does that mean I'm a confirmed grandad car driver?
NO.. definitely not, it means you're an accountant and not a very good one! hahah. btw ... are you saying that Rover in it's entirety only ever produced rubbish cars? 90, 110, 3500 coupe, SD1, P4, P5, P6 (6R4 world beater) ???
No worse than anything else being cobbled together at the time of their production, and streets ahead of many mainstream rivals from Ford, Vauxhall, etc.

I would agree with that. Perception is often more powerful than the facts. Once a brand is damaged you can build the best car ever and struggle to sell it because buyers will not believe that it can be so good. Brand perception can be everything.
I’ve always believed that BL, ARG, MGR and all the the other names it had made great cars, badly. SD1 I drove to the scrapper was a dream to drive but full of holes. The list goes on unfortunately.
