Default Thanks to Sewerman.

Thanks to Sewerman for allowing me to buy his spare ubp at the Four Ashes Meet his afternoon. I was having problems with my ‘new’ under bonnet diesel pump. I purchased this from Rimmer Bros. Around 9 years ago as a spare that was kept in the boot. My old pump, 105,000 miles was making a noise, but still working, but seeing that I had the spare, decided to change it. Bad move all round. After changing it, found it was leaking. Repeated the operation and it sill leaked. Tried different clips to fit the pipe but still leaking.
It was suggested that the pump itself might be leaking at the bottom. Did not want to think I had taken it off three times at Nano for nothing. But along came a knight in shining armour in the guise of Sewerman. He offered me his spare which like me kept it in the boot ‘in case’. Fitted this and guess what..................it did not leak. Just to let Sewerman know, I got home to Great Barr, put the car in the garage..............and the bottom of the pump was bone dry.
Thanks again mate. I will get in touch with Rimmer Bros and see if there is anything they are willing to do although it is well out of guarantee. Will let you know at the October Nano Meet. Last one of the year.

So do I. The last one did 105,000 miles so I think, hopefully it will outlast me. Just glad I got it done before we all go to Holland..would not want to have it pack up over there.

Hi Dave.
There you go put your old pierburg in the boot just in case even though it may be a little noisy, it's a get out of jail card to get you home.

I knew it could only be the pump as new hose would not leak, I would point out to rimmers that even though the pump is 9 year old, it still should not leak as it as never been on any car until yesterday, most likely a pin hole around the joint, nice to hear you got sorted out though as you know I had to leave cheers Arctic.

Yep would take the old as a back up as this one is a generic ebay one but has proved it was a leaking pump

Well today, still not leaking so you were correct in your assessment Steve. I really did not want to believe it could be the pump. Anyway, I am now very experienced at ubp removal and refitment after having it off three times at the Nano, and once at home. Please, no requests to do anyone else’s.

I purchased a new magneti marelli under bonnet pump from a member on here some time ago that started leaking I think from were the top is crimped into the pump body, it took me some time to work out were the fuel was leaking from, refitted the old pump and no more problem!

Cheers Steve. I will take the old one in the boot because you never know. By the way, do you know anyone with a Rover SD1 2.6. I have got two oil filters that fit it. Been looking round my shed. Also got a wheel that I got as a spare for my 3.5 SD1 Van Den Plas. Junk as the wife says.
