Default before i take it into the woods with a gallon of petrol

50k miles cdt is as flat as a NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-.
wont rev beyond 4k with no load.
if i flick the synergy on it makes a difference, but not much.
new bosch maf fitted (ECP not an ebay cheapie)
new pumps fitted 18 months ago
new injector, others checked.
disconnecting the maf makes it driveable.

any ideas or is it a box of matches time

Sounds like a faulty maf if disconnecting it helps. Time to go back to ECP with an receipt I'd say.

I've had a similar problem - turned out to be a faulty fuel rail pressure sensor.

Burn it with fire, or disconnect the EGR actuator solenoid, and make sure the MAFAM is turned OFF

Then see how it goes

Failing that, I know how to make these things go a little faster

Could also be a leak in the intercooler pipework or radiator. Symptoms seems to vary somewhat from car to car, but I have read of similar problems being down to blown intercooler O rings or leaks elsewhere in the system. Smokey exhaust, particularly on heavy acceleration is another indicator.

There have been factual reports of a failing crank sensor which shows itself by not allowing the engine to rev correctly.

Rare but has happened.

Don't bother about the matches----

Just send me the map co-ordinates of the car.

Does it rev freely with the MAF disconnected? If not try unplugging the LP fuel pressure sensor - it is the plug on top of the fuel filter.

If it then revs freely let us know and I'm sure with a few pointers you can get it sorted.

with the maf disconnected it's better (ie driveable) but still a bit (lot) weak. trouble is i have to go up a big hill to get home and without a decent run at it it's 30 all the way up, otherwise i'd put up with 25mpg and 80 flat out
