Torque Pro
When I bought my Tourer, I was also kindly given a plug-in OBD II scanner, for which some software needed to be downloaded.
I now (belatedly) would like to start using this, but don't fully understand what I'm reading on the web, although it seems encouraging. The plug-in is labelled "NEWNOW, mini, OBD II Scan, advanced OBD scan tool" All web info. seems to relate this to ELM 327, which appears to be the chip that it, and others, utilise (either genuine or a clone, at V. 1.5) Also popping up, is "Scan Master Lite" and "Torque Pro", both being application code, I believe. I like the display that Torque Pro offers, which certainly shows far in excess of my requirements. If I can find the charger, I have an old (1st generation?) Nokia smart phone to throw into the mix. Does any member use a setup like this, or is it too old to bother about? Fundamentally, I want to observe (whilst driving) coolant temp., but obviously a full "traditional" dashboard would be great. Oil Press., Water Temp., Ammeter (or volt meter) Thanks and Regards Mike

I have an Xtrons headunit and use a wireless OBD adapter to transmit the information for the Torque Pro application which I find quite useful and covers most things I need, but specifically coolant temperature. I can't remember if it can monitor oil pressure though.
It was some years ago I bought the adapter but I believe it to be a ELM327 unit but wireless as I didn't want any leads hanging in the footwell. Regards |

Thanks very much, sounds good.
I think it's all blue tooth, from what I understand. Agree about wires, and won't even be using cig. socket for Nokia Hard wire ign. 12v instead. Mike

Elm 327 was/is a Bluetooth unit which connects to torque pro running on android phone. Had a couple and used an old tablet as the screen was bigger. If you only want temperature, access the obd on your dash, bit of a faff each journey but 😎

Sounds like a workable thing to do then. Thanks to both Vitesse & suzublu.
I do use the OBD, but not all the time, just not practical. I try and use it every 2 - 300 miles, just to confirm that things are AOK. Backward step when full instrumentation was discarded, in my opinion. Regards Mike

Great idea to check coolant temp on your 2.5 Mike, but on your diesel the factory fitted temperature gauge works fine. If you lose coolant, or the serpentine belt breaks and the water pump stops the gauge will rise and the alarm light come. As long as you stop the engine as soon as that happens you won't do any damage.
