Found it! It was member Cantabro75. He got the picnic tables from an Austin Princess Vanden Plas, and made the door cappings and arm rest inlay himself:

There was another (now banned) member who fitted door cappings from a Maestro, but he has since removed all his old photos.

Cliff

Edit: Beaten to it by Ronnie, who posted his pics whilst I was still typing.

One finger typing Cliff I believe he made the holders for the tables from the rear armrest bottom parts

I am very sad to see the demise of picnic tables - Rover's last attempt was the formica looking centre rear armrest in the P5B, and Jaguar dropped them after the 420G, only fitting them in Daimlers subsequently. They have even been only available in Rolls and Bentley as extras since the late 1960's. I had them in my Father's Wolseley 6/110 and have owned 3 Daimlers since as I just like them, although rarely use them!

Up to date, and I find plastic ones in Citroen and Seat models, which are useful if not elegant! The brochure for my current Daimler, a Super V8, describes them as Laptop tables, so does nobody picnic anymore? Given the English weather, I still find them useful at Classic car shows in the rain. Perhaps a campaign is needed!

Wife has an 08 Golf plus and they are standard in that, admittedly grey plastic but they are a nice touch and as you say handy when out for the Sunday drive picnic

They've also been available on all marks of Range Rovers as optional extra's and in the Land Rovers autobiography programme and I think the Discovery 2 also had the option albeit plastic ones. They occasionally pop up on the bay of thieves, so always worth a look if your interested
