All this nonsense was probably instigated by terrorists, what better way of defeating your enemy than, by getting them to start fighting each other, just a thought.

If the Russians wanted to invade GB they could walk in anytime,we have nothing to stop them.
Yes, that is what you think, Britain has one of the most powerful armed forces in the world, it isn't always obvious, but true. A war with Russia will be unthinkable, and will almost certainly be catastrophic for all of us, that's the human race I am talking about.!

Well it’s not so much a secret anymore Robert.
Not new or secret 'news'. Previously reported last week, Astute Class attack/hunter killer on station in the Med. Not a surprise really, we either use Cyprus (our present capable 'aircraft carrier') or a big stretch of water to maintain a UK presence in the middle east zone of conflict.
No point in using QE carrier - no aircraft is one very good reason and even if there were, there are insufficient screen protection vessels available in the RN.
Oh dear, what a one legged policy we have.

We have the third largest spend on defence in the world actually more than Russia spends however, it wouldn't take much for world annihilation given a Polaris sub carries more fire power than that was used in 2 world wars. That's why folk worry when Corbyn talks about decommissioning of our subs.

US struck Syria before and with no repercussions from Russia, who incidentally have always had an air base in Syria. Israel is trying to wipe out arms sent to Assad by Iran, the Saudis are bombing the hell out of Yemen with I might ad arms sent from the UK and so far 500,000 dead in the Syrian conflict.

Nato and Cameron destabilised Libya, more people killed in Iraq after the war, Afghanistan another disaster zone. We are already knocking on the door of all out world conflict, a mess IMO.

The US loves wars it fuels their economy and allows them to use up all their old munissions and try out new stuff, better and smart as Trump puts it. Yet when the dust settles western powers do deals with the Taliban for example and this after our boys have died trying to sort another mess created about oil.

Agreed.

Also worth noting is that America's annual spend on defense is about 10 times that of Russia. Conversly, Russia's spending on defense is tiny compared with that of Nato. Only China comes close to the US with an annual spend just over 1/2 that of the US.

Over the years The only thing that keeps a country in check in terms of military action is a the fear of a nuclear counter strike.

The nuclear deterrence theory and so far its proven too be affective how ever, When emotions run so hot that one man could easily give the order and fire.

The UK certainly has advanced military how ever we lack the numbers and of course MBT Main battle tanks, The military budget has decreased ever so slightly, don't let that fool you were still very cable of defending our home soil.

Wars on fought on nutation depending how long it goes, That would be my fear if did kick off how much resources too sustain a large military action.

And of course how would we as a nation respond too military action?

Look at Vietnam many of the public were against the whole thing from the start.

If its for the right course then yes I would support military action and I have in the past with Syria.

This time around I think it could be bad news.

So far the conflicts around the world have been proxy wars how ever if the US does send troops too Syria and we jump along for the ride as well.

Let's just say anything can happen.

i'm not trying too be a barer of bad news but I think WW3 is closer then we think.

What have we learned from the last two world wars?

apart from loses of life on both sides.
Picking up the pieces from the aftermath.

NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The threats still exists, As long there people in the world there will always be war.

County's
Ideology's
politicians

As long we live in the world where each national state has power.
You know the rest.

We could always sail the "no planes here" aircraft carrier to the port in Syria the Russians use and sink it over the entrance. Then we will only need half the very expensive and doubtfully effective planes we ordered from the USofA. Chris.S.

Let's hope the new carrier has a full compliment of planes soon, look at the Falklands conflict hardly anyone had heard of the place, Thatcher used it to deflect peoples attention away from UK affairs, IMO May is doing the same thing with the Russian/Syrian situation, it's taken Brexit out of the news. And back to the Falklands, our men and ships taken out by French exocet missiles.

If Trump says support us militarily in Syria, never mind a parliamentary debate and vote, our government has no choice. The threat could be no trade deal and no aircraft or protection screening for that white elephant of a carrier. Did we not have two white elephants? What about the notion of Sovereignty? We are in a weak position.
