The whole thing is fixed to the door (from the 'inside') by 3 bolts that fasten into the trianglular bit of the stanchion and the foam (which is also triangular) is actually a large washer that gets slightly compressed when the bolts are tightened and consequently any voids or gaps get sealed - in theory that prevents/reduces any possibility of airsteam noise over/around the mirrors. |

On my 2004 diesel the foam on the drivers side mirror was missing a snall bit
as the triangular bit of foam is made up of two bits. The only real issue is when wet it acts like a sponge and holds water for a while so cant ve good for the door in the long term. Think it came out of the factory like that, probably biult on a friday afternoon!! Re the mirrors, they can be pulled to bits and bits replaced but.be aware the mk1 and mk2 mirrors do not have any interchangable parts except they will bolt on as a complete unit. |

I cheked the mirror housing today and there is foam Inside. One day I taped the small gap between the mirror and the housing and the car sounded quieter I think. Could this gap be the cause?
I checked the screw underneath, but couldn't find one... |

We had a replacement drivers door on our '06 Fiesta which has wind noise even though it fits well in the aperture. That's something to look at then, thanks.
