I really liked the Cortina and then the Sierra when they were current.
But, why would anyone want to pay large sums of money for one now, unless it has sentimental value e.g. being born due to the patents having one! |

Love these old cars, well not this one because it's an estate. Thing is, they're not daily drivers, noisy and not comfy enough, almost boneshakers. Every old (classic) car I've ever followed stinks of Castrol, well they all seem to burn oil. The smell is part of the nostalgia I guess.

It is very rare, being a Mk4 with the 2.3V6 and a manual gearbox, looks in good condition.

I was given the option to drive a MK5 Cortina last year, the owner needed it moving about 45 miles and I jumped at the opportunity as I had one in the 80's and had many fond memories.
After a couple of miles I realised how far everyday cars have moved on in the last 30 or so years, it was sluggish and neither handled that well and the only reason it was comfortable was because it was a Ghia and had the decent seats. No A/C of course and the heating was either hot or cold. The radio was rubbish and personally I found it quite noisy. I will say after an hour I was looking forward to handing back the keys. Maybe it was not the best example but I would not be putting £5k of my hard earned on one, I can think of a lot of other cars that would be nearer the top of my wish list. |

I can’t understand the negative comments - whoever buys this car would NOT be buying it to drive down the shops every day this is a rare car - especially as it is the more practical estate - that should be preserved. If you want to be isolated from a real driving experience - get a euro box. Loads of them about. In contrast - very few well preserved classic Fords like this out there. |

Why do people have to compare the driving experience of a classic car against the latest '68 reg AUDI I used to own a 1962 Austin A40 Farina as well as a nearly new Rover 75 at the time. My wife wouldn't drive it but I loved it's driving experience. Non servo drum brakes all round , A series engine pushing out 48 bhp from it's 1098 cc. The gearbox had a lovely whine from it's non synchromesh 1st gear and a lovely brum ! sound from it's peashooter exhaust. To me it was a time machine that you had to drive, not it drive you , infact at the time my old mobile phone answer message was '' I'm sorry that I can't take your call as I'm probably out in my Austin A40 in which therefore it's 1962 and the mobile phone hasn't been invented so I'll contact you when I return to the present time .

I served my time on Fords, from 1970, if i had the money i would want a 1600E Cortina, or a 3 litre Capri.

I owned a mark 4 GT Cortina.--Low mileage. 1973
Yellow and black with a factory fitted vinyl roof. Nothing wrong about the performance or ride quality. I paid £1,300 for it. ( Traded in my E-Type Jag.--- ) |
