Default Under-bumper screws

The screws under the front bumper of my ZT are corroded. I had a quick look today and they will be a bit of a struggle to remove - seems like they're Philips head? Has anyone replaced these with stainless? and any tips on removal?

leave them alone.if your are thinking they have to come out to get the undertray off they dont.they also do not need to come out for bumper removal.

I replaced all of mine with stainless screws, they were all corroded and looked untidy so I ended up drilling the heads off of them and then fitting all new U nuts. I have a big bag of the U nuts if you want some spares.

They look a lot better.

Kelvo, yeah they're the ones. Was it a long job to replace? Also what are the screws holding on? ie when would I really need to remove them - if not bumper removal?

suffolk boy - point taken. Replacement would be to remove before they become undo-able.

use a decent "spring loaded adjustable wrench" they will clamp onto the head of the screw and undo if a screwdriver wont move them.

this is what I mean

I've had great success with this type of tool

Dremel with a thin disc then use an ordinary screw driver. Replace with something with a hex or allen head.

Mole grips? I have some thanks for the tip. When did these become Milwaukee pliers, or are they somehow different?

All they do is hold on the channel that attaches to the ducting pieces, presumably because the front edge of the bumper sits lower than on a 75. There is no need to remove then, it's just a shame Rover used mild steel screws.

I had the bumper off at the time so it was easier on a bench and just drilled the heads off, I tried mole grips and they wouldn't budge, plus someone had obviously tried before and snapped a couple off.

I then just used a Dremel to cut away the remains of the U nuts which were corroded anyway.

Maybe I'll save it for when the bumper's off then. What size are they when you finally get them out? M6 x 25, or the pointed self-tapping types into U clips?

+1 for this method. The heat of the dremel cutting into the screw also seems to free them up.
