Just as an add, I have never been let down by a K series engine to the point where it would not get me home. The one that did need a head gasket gave plenty of warning via a film of oil in the header tank (no mayo or overheating). Lets be honest, with the cambelt needing changing at six years, it's not a lot more work to whip the head off, renew the gasket and put your mind at rest! All in all, a reliable engine!

I only use mine during the car show season time, but I like my 1.8n/a, it has had I head gasket due to a leaking water pump, but it has been otherwise trouble free, it won't win a Grand Prix, but it will cruise nicely and is surprisingly for a large car very economical on fuel and has good space around the engine for servicing.
