Meyle Drop Links
Just received a pair of new drop links in the post this morning - these are Meyle items and appear well made.
I did want to introduce some more grease into the joints before fitting them as a precautionary measure against premature failure. They have those blue spiral spring clips holding the boots on. I didn't want to take them off an find them impossible to replace. Has anyone had any experience of removing and replacing these (or not)? ps The links on the car are Optimal (Russian) and were fitted in October. Both sides are knocking away quite merrily. Many thanks Paul

The only two issues I see with that is that the cable tie might not hold the boot firm as the spring clip does (the respective profile of the two are 90 degrees different) and that by doing this any warranty is invalidated.
One thought I had was (using scrupulously clean tools) pushing the smaller end of the boot down and out of the groove with the clip still attached so there is wriggle room between the boot and the joint shaft to introduce a syringe into for greasing. Once done ease the boot up again between thumb and forefinger until it pops back into the groove?

Agreed! They have 2 years warranty.
I have had mine on for nearly a year, still like new.

In fact, Meyle HD have a 4-year warranty.
I for one do not subscribe to the need for additional grease as the contact within the joint is between a metal and self-lubricating nylon type material. |

MSS is correct; these are Meyle HD and declare a 4 yr warranty on the box.
I will just fit them and see how I go. Thanks all.

I can't honestly see any supplier doing a detailed examination of a failed droplink, well into the future, to try and identify if extra grease has been added or not - it'd have to be forensic and simply not worth the effort
However, I'll admit that a cable tie would tend to give the game away... Nylon or not, I'd be pretty certain that the addition of some extra, proper bearing type grease would only give a positive effect on reducing the rate of wear.

Mine are HD, my mistake, I thought it was only 2 years.

Apparently the 4 year warranty doesn't apply if you fit them yourself
Quote:
Not sure that would be easy for them to enforce since all they state to do in event of a warranty claim is to return it to where you purchased from with the original sales receipt, a description of the fault and a document stating the vehicle details, the date and mileage at the time of fitting. Possibly the last document would have to be an invoice for work carried out at a garage. Here's the Guarantee certificate The fact that they seem well made and the manufacturer believes they should last 4 years was enough for me to choose to fit them to the rear of my car last year. One of the unipart items I fitted to the front earlier last year has failed already so I will be fitting a set of Meyle HD drop links soon.

Lock wire is the best way of holding rubber boots on, if you have the correct p.liers it makes it easier but not necessary but don't overtighten the wire. Lock wire is usually made of stainless steel so will last, fold the jagged end over or you will be cursing it
