my dad shared a workshop with his best friend for 30 year and in the corner was his mk1 jensen interceptor which he bought in 1973. when his friend retired in 2006 he offered it to me and my dad as he knew how much i loved it and for only £1500 as it needed both sills replaced.
a nice mk3 could be had for 6k back then so we passed on it. the prices have rocketed since.

I think my imagination was driven by a feature when reading my Dad's "AA Drive" magazines back in the 60s. I lived in the Thames Valley for many years and the summer, before last, we hired a cabin cruiser for a week to visit some of my old haunts. Whilst in normal cruising mode (parked up outside a pub ), I was very pleased to see these two come past: It made my day!

I was only talking to Ratty about this very subject just a few hours ago !
Late 80's/early 90's, I called in to RPB Autosalvage in Plymouth for some bits (possibly Imp or Mk1 Astra related...) and parked at the top of their yard was a scruffy looking Jensen Interceptor. I peered in the window as I walked past and seem to remember how all the gauges were angled towards the driver....coming from a Hillman Imp, this was a pretty neat bit of design ! Anyway, I didn't have the funds, knowledge or equipment to take on such a car back then, but have always wondered whether it got scrapped or sold on & restored...

some cars scrapped would make you weep. Some reasons for scrapping would make you weep uncontrollably.
I always bought what I liked, except once a Jag E-type. I had the bank guaranteed cheque in my pocket, but didn't buy it. Invested the money in my company, and that has kept me going for more than 30 years. So not exactly a regret. I remember my dad went to look at a gull wing with my mom. He didn't buy it, when I asked him why, he said "far too noisy". He might have regretted that, but I never found out.

Two cars I regret not buying.
An orginal RHD TR8 in dark green that my local Austin Rover dealer had taken in in PX and offered to me knowing my love of cars. £6500 to buy but the £650 insurance as a 22 year old back in 1986 was twice my monthly salary ! The other was a 1974 MGB GT V8 in damask red from the late Barry Sidderly Smith (well known in MG racing circles) two years on in 1988 my earnings had increased but my head ruled my heart as running two cars was not financially viable. I regret both dearly and still have the desire to own a Rover V8 engined car, a Vitesse would be nice |
