Hi Steve,

Thank you! Your pictures and thread on the how-to mod are priceless. They will get me out of the current pickle. My tabs are both gone - screw holes and all - so a bit of eyeball measuring will have to do (and it will). Also, someone commented on the lower tab having a slot rather than a screw hole. That is what I will do with the lower tab since that is the screw that is just spinning on mine. SUPER!

Oh, about the SSC - I am waiting until I am sure I will have time to install it and get my original back to you in a timely manner before I buy it.

Cheers,
Glenn

OK folks,

I have ordered the ABS sensor and bolt as well as 4 replacement plastic sockets for the tail lights from Rimmer Bros. Therefore, no need to watch for a left Tourer tail light for - at least for now. I think I can save this one with the Arctic's mods.

Thank you all once again.

Cheers,
Glenn

Back again - I had a partial win with the tail light using Arctic's how-to on his mod. I found a couple of computer drive bay covers - super duper ones that are perforated FULL of holes. This is REALLY good for the epoxy. I also scratched up the plastic standoff of the broken tab to help the epoxy get a better grip.

I tried the centre punch trick to get the screw out of the spinning rivnut behid the broken bottom tab. No luck. I did get the rivnut very tight, but not tight enough. I did spray the screw a couple of times with WD-40 (all I had on hand). I tried loosening the screw, tightening it first and hammering on the end of the screwdriver handle a couple of times, but the screw didn't budge. The rivnut did loosen up again, though, so that prompted a rethink. No point in fixing that bottom tab if I can't get the screw out to use it as designed. I thought about the slot idea for the modified bottom tab, but the light would have to go in on an angle and rotate a bit to get the slotted tab behind the stuck-in-place screw. The bulb socket beside one of the bottom horizontal locating tabs won't really permit that. There is just a mm or two of that tab left so I can just coax it into place behind the stuck screw and it will be fine. New sockets for the locating balls will ensure it all stays tight. Here's a couple of pictures.

Cheers,
Glenn
