Default Wind Noise Solved

I've been plagued by wind noise coming from both front doors/Windows. I've gaffer taped all possible gaps without finding the source.

Anyway, I had the door card off today to replace a couple of clips and while I was there I took the wing mirror off and there was no foam insert inside.

I still have my old, damaged 75 carpet in the garage, so I cut some foam from it and stuffed it inside the wing mirror mount and put it all back together.

Took it for a drive and hey presto. No more wind noise on drivers side

I'll check the other side tomorrow.

I have wind noise in this area too, wonder if it could be the mirrors then? I though it was a poor seal around the window or door but they look perfect. Would any type of foam help with this and is there an easier way to get it inside the mirror housing without taking the door card off?

I think you should be able to get to the mirror bolts by just removing the trim that has the tweeter attached. There should be foam in there already but mine was missing. The carpet foam I used was quite dense and has done the job.

A little old thread but I have been suffering from this problem and I have been Wondering where the foam is supposed to be? I thought the noise was coming from the place where the mirror meets the Part from the car

Was this foam something else removed by Project Drive? Haven't needed to dismantle my chrome bullets as they don't whistle. Mine's a Y reg.

The foam is a triangular bit and sits inside the base of the mirror where it bolts onto the door.As mentioned you can access it by removing the plastic trim and remove 3 bolts.
As a matter of interest, i belive there was a wind noise issue from the mirrors on mk2 cars when Mgr changed the shape of the mirrors as the newer ones have a screw hole underneath which catches the wind!!

I can't figure it out. So is the foam supposed to be on outside? If So, can I remove the triangular plastic piece from outside? It seems kind of impossible because the plastic goes underneath the mirror... And on
Inside it seems that I have to remove door card to get there. I can take the tweeter Off and there is no foam behind it.
