Default When Did You Last See

One of those. Ford Cortina 2.3 Ghia. Stopped on the way to the POL at (Asda) Clayton Green near Leyland. Got speaking to the owner and passed a pleasant half hour chatting about the car.

I always remember the Cortina as a BIG car, but there is a chap near me who has a MK2 1600E and it looks tiny now ...

Nice to see them out & about, I haven't seen one in my neck o the woods for a long time. I think I owned most of Fords models over the years from the Anglia upwards, I had a couple of Mk IV Cortina's back in the day. I liked them and they were a great car to work on.

There is a MK4 Estate I sometimes see around here. Scruffy but seems to be used. It wont need taxing or an MOT soon.

If you do your own maintenance and repairs makes perfect sense for cheap transport.

There's one near me, and the chat who put me onto Bones when she was up for £150 has two! (And two 75's!) I have an early Mk2 Cavalier, does that count hehehe

Back in the day when MK5 V6 2.3's were a few hundred £'s at every car auction my mate bought a decent one in that vivid green metallic they came in. He had already acquired a 2.8 24v valve lump and gearbox and all the parts needed from a Granada that had been rear ended.

Over a few months he fitted the engine and all the wiring. No changes to the outside and I think he fitted bigger front discs more for the insurance than anything else which wanted an extra £50 for the bigger engine , those were the days.

Anyway once on the road what a surprise, it transformed the car from an old man's car to something that would easily do 140mph and not much at the time could catch him on acceleration. My 16v Calibra which wasn't a slow car in its time could get close at above the legal limit but not a chance up to 70mph.

Sadly after a about a year it got stolen and never seen again.

Good choice of engine for the conversion Steve as the 2.3 were very sluggish and a horrible car in standard form. The 2.0 over the 2.3 would be a better choice back in the day
