Default Yella Fella in the wars

Hi all. I was involved in a three car shunt this morning. I was the last car.

The guy at the front stopped at a green light just after it turned green . I'll check my dashcam when I get home later.

Anyway, Yella Fella's front bumper has 4 scuffs and a small split in the plastic. To me its an easy bumper repair and respray at about £200? but . . . my fear is the insurance will attempt to be lazy and writer Yella Fella off!!

It will need to be an insurance job because the BMW I hit will require a new rear bumper.

I have a spare front bumper that (different colour, no damage) that can simply be sprayed and fitted.

Any advice form anyone would be appreciated before I contact the insurer.

Sorry to hear of the shunt I'd check the dash camera first to see if he did stop at a green light also make the insurance aware if he did and send the footage and let them argue it out, the BMW can claim from your insurance but you don't need to claim for your damage as it'll mean the car being a total loss not sure if you could claim for cash in lieu of repairs for your own car.

You don't need to claim for the damage to your car on your insurance if you don't want to. +1 on submitting the footage - let the others argue it out with the car that stopped: don't hold your breath though - if the car in front stops and you can't stop in time.... I learnt the hard way not to read ahead of the car in front - just 'cos its clear and I'd go doesn't mean he will, could break down or anything right in front of me.

Legally it makes no difference if he stopped at a green light or not.

If you rear end someone, you're responsible.

Hope you get yella fixed soon and without too much aggro

They will of course claim that they were alright until you pushed No 2 into No1, since you were "obviously going too fast" and too close.

Not forgetting the whiplash claim from the driver you rear ended

If they want to write your car off ask them instead to give you the value of the car less the scrap value (£200?).
LV were prepared to do it for me before they had a change of heart and are going to replace the rear bumper.

Also if it does go thru the Insurance,Do NOT let them take your car away, for inspection etc. If you do you may never see it again. If they want to inspect it make them come to you.

Always this - unless you're certain it's beyond repair or you are happy for it to be written-off.

Likewise my Rover 825 was just about to be driven away because it was written off for a minor shunt, had I not shown up it would have gone had a hell of a job getting it back
