Hi I need to replace the door mirror and find it unlike the thread for the mark 1. That provided access via removing the rubber window channel. The later car looks completely different. Do I have to remove the door panel? Advice would be appreciated.

Take it you mean the door mirror assembly. Never done it but after door card and internal trim are removed it's just 3 screws (undone from the inside) that secure the triangular mirror assembly stanchion which should come away from the door complete with the foam gasket.
If you are removing the mirror only there are good how to's on here but I've just come up with a bit of an improvement - in the normal location within the housing, the mirror has to be gently slid sideways (in the 'outwards' direction i.e. away from the door) in order to unclip it from the directional motor plate. If you check out the how-to's all sorts of rather glass unfriendly leverage tools are improvised, I found the ideal tool for this little job is a plastic shoehorn..
