Default HELP!! Brake Pipes

After failing MOT on one corroded brake pipe (front nearside) I am having trouble getting new so decided to make my own.
Any advice? I see kits are available that should fit the bill.

Definitely do not buy the OEM pipes. They last a couple of years then corrode. Whether you make up your own or have a garage do it, use Kunifer pipe. It will outlast the car. It's not necessary to route the rear pipework over the tank. If that's difficult, just route it around the outside and ensure the pipes are well supported with clips. You can get clips separately. Don't know much about kits, but buying Kunifer in rolls is cheap and you can get the flaring gizmos anywhere. Double check the style of the connecting unions if DIY.

I feel a "how to" coming with pictures

A few cars have failed with rusty pipes so any help or tips on how to DIY would be great.

Yes a How To would be great my pipes have failed MOT (not on corrosion) but not being supprted (clipped in). They must have been replaced with previous owner but not done properly.

Being done this Thursday, Garage cant quote on labour time as they dont know how long the job will take they say they might need to drop the tank.??

Interesting, as there are no clips on the bit above the tank.

All clips are accessible. Where are they saying the clips are missing?

aaaahhh! Thanks Duncan

............. that's interesting, they say they may need to drop the tank as they cant see any clips that would now make sense (THANKS).

I think they are honest enough I just think they dont know much about the 75 as it shows.

I now don't have any confidence in them if this is the case, they are doing the rear spring and front anti roll bar ball joint on Thursday. They say they may need to re-shape the pipes and re-fit up into clips where ever they are.

Does anyone have a BLUE PRINT or diagram of the clips where they are located and how many, comes to something when you have to help a garage fix ya car.

Sorry to hi-jack the thread.

Right, so it gets interesting.

I just visited the rimmerbros website to find the page that has those pipes, and there are clips shown.

Now my car has no clips (yes I was surprised) and when I consulted EPC when I replaced my pipes, none were listed for that area. Mine is a Cowley car (built Nov 99) and I replaced the pipes myself and had a good look for any sign of clips as I was worried about dropping the tank, too.

So I suspect that they were added later perhaps after complaints of rattles from that area.

I wonder if anyone who breaks cars has noticed this?

So yours is cowley built and so is mine (2000 'W') registered April.

.................. this diagram on Rimmers, does is show my model not having clips?
this would be so great to tell the garage that my beauty was not built with the clips anyway.

Now my worry is that the garage might damaged something when playing around finding or not finding any clips.

Thanks for all your help Duncan and anyone else's who would like to add anything so I can go into the Garage tomorrow and explain how it is.

EDIT! Where do your pipes go at the tank Duncan, around or ????????? got a pic....

My pipes are pretty much as in this picture:

http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-GRID001567

but the three clips that are at the top on the back pipe (one on the RH, two on the left) were not there. They are the number ones at the top of the page. The only ones at the back were the last two, right close to the ends.
