PS I don't think spacing the CE letters differently gets them around any laws, (more likely TM than patent), it should actually make it easier to spot the fakes.

This stuff is of true concern, but this goes way beyond the drop link scenario -
Safety critical components - Tyres Brakes & hydraulics Nasty suspension / steering Components. The list is endless, not to mention the morons fitting such rubbish and expecting it to perform as the "OE" component did and for as long ! I will be the first to admit - I don't fit stainless steel alternators, gold plated coil springs ETC, but they have to be of a good standard, otherwise they don't get fitted. I am known as a snail at work, but equally, I don't fit the wrong tyres, forget to torque up wheel bolts, fit new pads to dirty contaminated calipers and the wrong way round Oh yes, seen this on a car in for test ! So I am happy being a trusted snail and keeping safe in what I achieve. |

Ah, the good old 'China Export' logo 'CE' - You need to be know the differences to be able to differentiate it from the Certificate of European Conformity mark 'CE' It's mostly in the letter spacing.

I think this was part of the Project Drive cost-cutting measures - they deleted the ARB, but specified slightly stiffer rear springs to compensate.

As much as Land Rover often seem to get criticised for poor quality lately, my old Discovery 2 was purchased with about 70,000 miles. It's spent all it's life with me towing cars, yet is still (unless replaced prior to my ownership) on all it's original road springs, dampers, drop links, even the exhaust is still the original.....and it's just clicked over 214,000 miles
It just goes to show that things can be made to last if they are designed and manufactured correctly
