Ok, i had to get a second hand complete fan rather than attempting to fix what i have.
I've also ordered to gold resistor to replace the silver one. My question now is do i have to cut the shroud to get it past the air con pipes when re-assembling? I'm now aware that when removing the fan it could be hinged on the left hand side around the pipes. What i'm really saying is i also have no idea what would be involved with removing any air con pipes, i'm guessing the whole system would need to be re-gassed? Interested to hear about this as its another lesson for me to learn. Thanks |

If you are going to remove your old fan completely from the car & your car as A/C gas yes, it is best you cut round or break away the cowling round the unions to aid removal, than cut neatly round the cowling of the new fan so it fits nice round the A/C unions. Cowling fitted round the A/C pipe unions. 1 Use long nosed pliers to nibble the cowling away from the unions. 2 3 4 5 Do the same with the bottom union. 6 The fan can then be removed from the car without disturbing the A/C gas. 7 Re-fit the new fan with the cowling trimmed neatly round the unions. 8 One I trimmed ready for fitting to car when needed four wire 3 speed, re-brushed V6 9

All assembled, i wanted to see if its working ok, i'll fit the gold resistor when it arrive from the UK.
Put it onto demist and the fan goes off, but i don't recall it being that powerful! Its very loud and powerful. But....there a few things not right. It does not kick in automatically (not pressing demist) In traffic it was going up to 105 and no fan response, i had to press demist to get it down Also there was a bit of a squeal, but not 100% of the time, seems to be coming form the belts. The car has been sitting for over 6 months not being driven, will the squeal go away once driven constantly? |

Try starting the engine from cold then immediately pressing the demist button. Does the fan run then?
Before fitting, did you check the silver resistor for continuity? Quote:

Engine started from cold and demist pressed and fan starts, not instantly but about 2-3 seconds after pressing.
I did not test the resistor as the demist test worked. |

If the fan starts on demist then the resistor is working, quick video below, you will also see the A/C clutch kick in. https://youtu.be/KdjoTyGMH-k

Thanks Joe. As Arctic has said, that tells us that your resistor and fan control system is working.
So, the next time during driving that the temperature reaches 105 degrees, can you stop and check that the radiator fan is running. If it is then the high temperature has nothing to do with the fan. Simon

Whilst driving, temperature creeps up (i have Hans sensor) it goes to 105 and the fan does not start.
I then press demist to get the temperate down. |

Does it run continuously or cycle on and off every 10-15 seconds?
