During my checks, a few days ago, I noticed the pad wear sensor wire was unattached. Strange, as the warning light hadn't shown (or does it have to earth, via the pad backing? So today I replaced it with a new one. The spring clip had rusted away. Only needed a bit of fiddling about under the bonnet to undo the joint, released the clips and "Hey Presto", job done. Unfortunately, I discovered where the slight "Clonk" was coming from, whilst braking. The wishbone rubber joint has deteriorated so have ordered a pair from Matt. Why do I not find these things in the summer? Another cold day in the garage it is then!

Started on the list of MOT jobs - OSF track rod end had a bit of play so decided to kick off with the easy stuff.

Balljoint separated no problem but the lock nut was well and truly seized on the tie rod. Wire brushed the visible thread and soaked the nut in Plus Gas and it still wouldn't budge, so got the blow torch out and gave it some heat.....

Ran out of gas so slit through the nut with my Dremel, opened it with a screwdriver and adjustable and finally got it off. Cleaned up the thread with a thread file and then spent the next 15 minutes looking for a replacement nut.

Hope the other jobs don't end up being as much hassle and time consuming.

I normally used a pair of mash hammers for that job Mike, one for action, the other for reaction, on opposing flats of the locknut

I've never had a TRE resist the charms of being snuggled between two loving 2lb hammers

Ah yes have used them to help split tapers in the past Bri, but to be honest didn't think I had enough room for a decent swing on the nut itself.

I removed all the Highline boxes from the boot area in anticipation of fitting the new Android head unit.. A little challenging working around the LPG tank in the wheel well, made access to the bracket bolts a bit awkward at times.

Just need to work out a good route for the aerial connector from Tourer boot to the front now..
