Wooden Car Ramp
Been mooching on Youtube and came across a chap who built a wooden car ramp that looked like a roof truss upside down. Now I know these roof trusses are strong enough to carry roof slates and suchlike but has any member come across ones like these to carry a car?

I used builders planks in the past to make up some ramps for my Land Rover which is 1.5 tons. It just requires sufficient wood to take the load , plans and drawings often appeared in Practical Motorist in the 1950/60's as power tools and welders were unavailable at reasonable prices for DIY. Most owners would have a handsaw , hand drill and a screwdriver.

I used to build car ramps from scaffold planks using six inch nails. Heavy as Hell and twice as strong as many of today's spindly angle iron jobs.

A wooden version of these? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MW6NNBRvv8 and: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tnBgj50Xka8 I suppose one could be constructed in wood if it was sensibly sized and braced. But rather him than me. TC Last edited by T-Cut; 7th October 2019 at 19:09.. |

Hardly worth bothering with wood when decent metal ramps are not expensive.
Mind you, woodworm might prefer them.-- |

Roof Trusses spread a lot of weight over a large area and multiple Trusses are used at specific intervals - Ideal for a Fixed Roof Structure
A Ramp where the Load is going to be more Focused and Move across the structure is another issue Halfords do some nice Car Ramps that I can recommend work well with my Car at least Paul. |

My ramps are made of kitchen worktop off cuts. Been ok for the last 20 years.

I have 2 planks, 4.5M long by 225mm wide x60mm thick which I can rest on 100x100mm square timbers, doubled. I can get the car to balance level on these, see-saw style, with axle stands at each end to secure. My old steel frame ramps are too short, steep and narrow for the Rover.
