Well, this is my first post, and sorry for my bad spelling cause im spanish

I had the same issue discussed in this thread, a whinning noise when deccelerated on 5th gear. None of the town mechanics had any ideas or could adress the problem

The matter is that a month ago the crank pulley broke, and after i repaired it in an official Rover garage the whinning noise has gone! Completely!

My theory is that the noise is there when the crank pulley is wearing off slowly for a long time.

That will be a different whine to the fuel resonance issue which was present on some brand new 75's

Thanks for your input though.
Hope it's warmer where you are?!

Mine is an 04 facelift ZTT 131. It has the whine which stays at a constant pitch and starts after about 1600 revs mainly when warm. I will check re the fuel pumps. Its nice to know it's nothing serious but it is annoying!

Yeah sorry I meant to see whether it had one or two pumps? Although having read the thread it seems it affects both models?

Mine has just started doing this, monotone whine off throttle, loud as hell in the car, hardly noticeable outside or in the engine bay.

Although its a mk2 it has the old dual pumps. Its not the fuel lines, or regulator, it not the clutch, not the flywheel (some Seats had DMF resonance), not the air-con or any belt driven ancillary.

My last thought is the turbo. Although its quiet in the engine bay it does seem louder at the back.
